We have had another wonderful, busy week.  Your children are really settling in now and becoming accustomed to our routines.  We had our first computer lab lesson. The students were taught care of the laptop and how to turn it on, sign in, and use the Bethlehem Website.  If I receive a signed permission slip back from you, next week I will be able to take your child to some of the educational sites that I have found over the years.

Math-  This week we spent a lot of time identifying important phrases in word problems.  We also continue to stress the part-part-whole relationship.
Reading- We are continuing to develop Reading Response skills.  We have been reading with partners and also in small groups.
Word Work-Next week we will be using the "am" sound.  Thank you so much for encouraging your children to learn the meanings of these words as well as just the spellings.
Science-Ants, of course.  We have examined ants on the projector and have been reading much nonfiction .  Your children should be able to tell you what makes an ant an insect. He/She can also tell you some of the types of ants included in a colony and the jobs many colonies have.
Writing- We are completing our work on "Where Authors Get Their Ideas".  Next week we will begin to develop the process necessary for successful writing.

I am finally getting a set schedule and should be able to begin use of parent volunteers in early October.  Please look for a schedule soon.  Have a wonderful weekend!
