What a wonderful week we have had!  The weather cooperated and so did the children!
This was our first "normal" week in awhile.  No extras or disruptions.  Hooray!

In Reading this week, we finished up identifying the main idea of passages and writing "W" questions.  Your children have become quite adept at finding facts and turning them into complex, coherent thoughts.  Next week we will start our State research project.

Math:  We continued to work on addition and subtraction into 3 digits.  We have been using Base 10 blocks to aid with understanding and the children seem to really "get it".

Writing:  We are finishing our persuasive writing unit this week with a letter to be sent to Governor Cuomo regarding the institution of year-round school.  I was surprised at the number (about half) the children who were in favor of the change!

Science:  We completed our unit on Soils with an examination of our worms and the compost they made over the past month.  We began our new unit, Balancing and Weighing.  IT is a very hands-on unit that so far has captured their imaginations.

REMINDER:  This will be the last week for formal homework, IF your child has brought in his/her completed packet, on time this week and next.  He/She is still responsible for daily reading, spelling words, and math fact practice.

Our final book order of the year is out.  It will be due back on May 28th.
