Here's hoping that March goes out like a lamb!
This has been an eventful week with many things accomplished.

Reading:  You have probably noticed the complexity of the reading passages that we complete each day is increasing.  You may also have noticed that your child's ability to answer all parts of the questions in complete sentences using textual evidence has also increased.  This is to help them be better able to meet the rigors of third grade.

Math:  We have begun working on place value to the 1,000s place.  The children are using base ten blocks expanded notation to explain number value.  The two step word problems included each week in the homework packets are becoming more manageable.  Thank you for your help.  Next week I will be giving the timed fact tests again.

Health:  This week we looked at the food groups and "My Plate".  We discussed what each group is "good" for.  We also researched the need for and use of nutrition labels.  We discussed how to keep a healthy body and heart and this afternoon, I hope to allow them time to examine, touch, and experiment with a deer heart.

Writing:  We completed the publishing of our final informational texts.  I am proud of the students' achievements.  The finished projects will be displayed for a time in the library before we send them home to you.  Next week, informational writing will be assessed.

I am sending out a new book order.  It is due back by April 10.
If you haven't already done so, would you please consider donating to our "Birthday Party" raffle basket?  We have a pinata, candles, cupcake papers, a bow and ribbon, invitations.  Any other objects are welcome...cake mix, frosting, balloons, paper supplies, party games, small party favors or a small monetary donation.

Have a wonderful weekend.  Enjoy the last of March Madness!
