2B with Dani Moz a finalist on the Voice!  Watch her on Monday at 8pm on NBC!

This was a great week!  We accomplished so much and had a great time doing it!  I released the book order yesterday.  It should arrive right after vacation.  We did our Chapter 10 math test and our timed fact tests.  We did our pre-assessment for our persuasive writing unit!  Phew!

Reading:  We are continuing to work on comprehension skills and using textual evidence and inference to answer questions.  The children are beginning to speed up their pace and to understand HOW to go about answering questions.  You may be noticing fewer errors and more complete answers

Math:  We completed the units on beginning money counting and on patterning with numbers in the hundreds.  This unit was fairly straight forward for most.  We will be starting 3 place addition and subtraction with regrouping after vacation.  We will also continue time work.

Writing:  Your children are learning how to write persuasive arguments in Writer's Workshop.  They are beginning to use opening statements, opinions stated as facts, giving facts and reasons using transition words and using a strong concluding sentence.  We began by wriitng about why are clas is great and continued into writing about our favorite books.

Science:  We are working on our soils unit.  We used our 4 senses (NO TASTE!) to determine the 3 types of soil and their characteristics.  We learned a song about the layers of soil and did some initial experiments with separated types of soil!

There is NO FORMAL homework.  Please have your child read and practice math each day.  They should do Xtra Math at least 4 times over the break.  Have a wonderful week off and a peaceful holiday.
