Bring on the May Flowers!  I am a little tired of all this rain.
Despite the dreary weather we had a great week.  Our most exciting news is that we now have 2 new class pets!  Hermit crabs.  We have been researching the care and feeding of hermit crabs and now Pirate and Shelly have joined our ranks.  Pirate has already traded shells for our amusement!

We continue to drive toward the finish in class.  I am very pleased with your children's progress.
In Math:  We are continuing to work on 3 digit subtraction regrouping while reviewing 3 digit addition regrouping.  The new program I introduced is called HappyNumbers.  The students did very well at it.  I will be giving the timed May facts tests next week.

Reading:  We are continuing to practice Close Reading but this week we have added writing a response to the reading that requires the use of textual evidence.  The fluency test is coming up.  Please practice some oral reading for speed and accuracy.

Science:  We are completing our soils unit this week with experiments about how water travels through different types of soil.  We also discovered that our worms love composting banana peels and for the first time ever, we have egg casings!  We can't wait to see what happens!

Writing: We are continuing to work on persuasive writing.  This week we finished book letters to Mrs. Raffe's class and wrote our own "Don't Let the Pigeon" books.  As I am sure you are aware, your children are very good at arguing for what they want!  :)

Please mark your calendars.  Our class will be presenting at the Flag Day assembly.  The assembly is set for Friday, June 13th.  It will probably be at 2:15.  There will be more info to come.

Have a great weekend.
