Once again we have been chock full of activities and new learning! This week we had pictures taken and made many Halloween projects to stimulate our writing. At this point, your students are becoming masters at "snappy beginnings" and are beginning to add "show not tell" details. I am attempting to help the children draw their readers in with their words. I hope you are beginning to see a difference. Of course we are also continuing to stress the mechanics of writing; uppercase letters, periods, spaces, proper pencil grip and letter formation.
In math, the children are beginning to work on subtraction strategies to help with fact knowledge. We have been counting up or down and using addition to aid in subtraction. I am already seeing improvement!
In Reading Workshop, I have been seeing huge growth! The students are becoming much better able to write in complete sentences and answer questions in complete sentences using information from the text. I have been continuing to work on nonfiction conventions and also on rereading text to foster fluency and comprehension.
Tomorrow is Spirit Day. Please encourage your children to wear orange and black. Yankee Candle orders have arrived and you will receive info about them soon. The book order was released and should arrive within 2 weeks. Our Halloween party will be on Wednesday at 1:20. All are welcome. Thanks to all of you who have offered to help. I will be manning the 2nd grade hoop at the Turkey Shoot on November 8 from 3:45 until 5:15. Please remember, our Veterans Day Assembly is on November 9th at 2:20. All are welcome.
Thank you for your ever present help and support!
