Thank you All for your continuing interest in the class and our activities! I appreciate all you do and how supportive you are. In that vein: Mrs. Tobin completed putting together our class carnival raffle basket. She is very proud of the results. Also, keep those American Heart Association donations coming. Mrs. Young extended the deadline to the Friday after vacation. As of this morning, we are tied for the lead with Mrs. Raffe's class. Mr. Betor is a class second.
This week, our class managed to complete a lot of different topics.
Reading: We completed our unit on inference. The children have shown real improvement in their ability to determine information based on the text and their own background knowledge.
Math: We completed our unit on basic subtraction regrouping. Part of this unit included solving 2 step word problems. They are very tricky but the students are getting used to the wording.
Science: We continued work on our soils unit. They are beginning to determine the characteristics of the 3 main types of soil. The children started an in classroom compost pile complete with 23 worms! The students examined them with magnifying glasses and probes on Monday.
Writing: We completed our book (The 5th in the Series) for Mrs. Platek. This one is entitled "The 25 Things Isla Should Know About Being a Big Sister". The children also illustrated the text. I've attached the text only so you can see some of the insights your children have into child rearing. Very funny!
Have a great week off! Enjoy your children and the fact that there is NO homework.
