Happy Spring! We are entering our final section of second grade. I can't believe how this year has flown until I take stock of all the progress I see in your students.
This week continues to be a busy one!
Math: We have been practicing multiple step word problems and working on place value to 1,000 using both standard and expanded form.
Writing: We are learning to write persuasive letters. Thus far the students have written to the class telling why their vacation was best or worst, to Mrs. Bonacquist asking for a change in the school, and to President Obama about the fate of the lowly penny. The children are writing 3 paragraph letters with strong language and details.
Reading: We have not done stations this week. We are working on finding, developing and writing main ideas using the W words. It is very difficult but your children are beginning to independently write these complex sentences.
Science: We are continuing work on our science unit. This week the students completed smear tests and settling tests on the 3 main types of soil. Most students are getting good at pictorally representing their findings and using equipment correctly.
The class saw the school musical "Go West". It is an amazing production! The fifth graders did a remarkable job. It was great for us to see our buddies and older friends and siblings on stage.
Next week, we will be having an earlier lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so our snack will be in the afternoon. This is due to the upper grades' State testing.
I will be giving the April fact timed test one day next week. I am aiming for Tuesday depending on attendance.
Have a wonderful weekend. As always, thank you for your help and continued support!
