Thank you so much for attending my Open House last night. I love being able to explain my program and getting to know all of you. If you were unable to attend, I have sent the information home with your child.
This week was quite good. We are settling into our routines and the children are beginning to trust me. We are moving more quickly and accomplishing more. We even made it to the Computer Lab this week and learned to log in with our own usernames and passwords
Reading: We are reviewing my expectations for reading workshop and discussions. These rules include how to sit, how to hold a book, how to turn pages. I am also continuing to work on screening your child's reading individually.
Math: We are working hard on facts and vocabulary. We use a part part whole method to try to cement the concept of fact families. We are not only solving word problems, we are writing them! This is a HUGE change. I also completed and submitted the two benchmark assessments for math.
Writing: We used our "Getting to Know You" posters to start our writers workshop. We are talking about beginnings, middles and ends to entries. We are also learning to write on "grown up" lines.
I use a frame to help the students get started. Next week we will be working on adding details to our ideas.
Science: The ants are a HIT! This year's ants are thriving and tunneling all over the place. All last year's ants did was escape. We are learning a lot. Your children seem very excited.
I truly appreciate that your children are so happy to come to school and always prepared. This allows me to really move them along. I appreciate your help, input and support. Have a great weekend!
