This week has been great!  I am thrilled by the way your children are taking their assessments in stride and showing all they have learned.  I finally completed the individual reading assessments.  I am finishing up the math and writing assessments next week.  I can't wait to see you at conferences to share all the good news!

As you know, our school is reading Charlotte's Web.  We have been answering trivia questions about the book, doing word searches and mazes, and making art projects.  Take some time if you can to view the link from the Slingerlands page.

Reading:  This week the students continued to individually read and take notes on their biographies.  The students have been working on comparing and contrasting 2 sources, making time lines, determining important vocabulary and synthesizing information.  We are also reading and discussing myths, tall tales and legends during our reading workshop.

Math:  The children have been working on mental math in subtraction.  They have been employing the 100s chart and Base 10 blocks to solve these puzzles.

Writing:  We completed our catapult lab report.  The children are much better able to categorize information in a neat organized manner.

Social Studies:  The children are becoming familiar with the geography of the US.  We are locating states and learning simple facts and nicknames.  Very FUN!

Computer Lab:  Your children started to create their first PowerPoint report this week.  So far your children have begun to type, change fonts/sizes, and import photos from the internet.  It is a really big deal.

Thank you for continuing to support me.  Your children are making fine progress.  I appreciate all your assistance.  Have a great weekend.
