Once again, I am starting this blog by talking about the weather!  Will this strange winter ever end!!!

The children are continuing along in all their units this week.

Writing:  The children have begun writing their final paper for our informational unit.  They are writing a chapter book on a topic for which they are an expert.  So far we have written our potential Table of Contents, our Introduction, and Chapters 1 and 2.  The children are beginning to indent automatically, write a topic sentence for each paragraph and include at least 3 sentences with details to support the topic.

Science:  We are completing our Balancing and Weighing Unit. The children determined how to compare 4 to 6 objects and rank them in order by weight.  They also began to use a standard weight (unifix cubes) to record actual weights.  The results were graphed.

Math:  The children continued to work on subtraction regrouping.  They are doing beautifully.  We also touched on using a number line to subtract and how to check results by adding.  Many thanks to all of you faithful parents for encouraging your children to practice their facts.  It makes these topics so much easier for them.

Reading:  We are reading both orally to increase fluency and silently to cement comprehension.  The children then independently work on answering various types of questions using textual evidence.  As you may be noticing, the texts are getting more complex and the questions are of a higher level.

This week, we had Picture Day on Thursday.  I also released the March book order.  Yearbook orders and Bookworm submissions were due today (Friday).

Thank you for your continuing support.  I appreciate all you do to make my work with your children so successful.
