We've had a week chock-full of assessments and activities!  Thank you so much for all your generous donations to the Grassroot Givers.  We collected 20 scarves, 8 hats, and 6 monetary donations.  I am sure there will be many warm and appreciative people in Albany, thanks to you.

This week we are welcoming Miss Ana Knoblock to our classroom.  She is a student teacher from the College of St. Rose.  She is very eager and excited to be working with your children.  Feel free to stop in and meet her.  Ana will be with us until March 8th.

Reading:  We are beginning work on how to take notes from our biographies.  The children are using bullets and an organizational charts.  We began work on our individual PowerPoint presentations.  The children will be able to display them and their written reports together soon.

Math:  We are continuing to work on regrouping.  Students took their District Math Assessment this week.  They are progressing well through the topics and retaining information learned.

Writing:  We began our informational writing unit by creating a piece in which the students were the experts about a topic of his/her own choice.

Social Studies:  We are continuing to work on our Communities Unit.  The children also had a lesson from Mrs. Tobin about unit production vs assembly line production of donuts.  The results were a bit surprising but the children enjoyed the process. Our community projects are due to school on February 7th.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.  We have also been discussing Dr. King's impact on our country.  We read a TFK article about him.  We will create a project with our fifth grade buddies tomorrow.

Book orders were sent home last week.  Orders will be released next Tuesday, January 22nd after school.
The children had a great time sledding!  Thank you for helping by preparing them so well.  Have a great long weekend.
