Wow! It is cold outside! Thank you for dressing your children for the weather. It's been brutal!
We sure managed to pack a lot into our short week. We didn't begin any new units but continued on with those we started last week. I released the book order yesterday. You should receive your purchases in about one week or so.
Reading: We are continuing to read and take notes on our individual biographies. The children are also doing more in-depth thinking about their famous person by making connections and determining meanings for content specific vocabulary. We are using the notes taken to develop PowerPoint reports. This week we learned to import pictures from the internet and add them to our slides.
Math: Ms. Knoblock has been doing the formal math instruction this week. She is developing lessons involving addition regrouping and addition using a number line. She used cute little "dice in a dice" for practice addition of 2 digit numbers. The kids love the dice. They are available in the Parent Teacher Store in Latham.
Social Studies: We saw a video about Dr. King on Tuesday. I was amazed at the students' interest and prior knowledge. You do such a great job of keeping them informed. We also are continuing our Communities unit. The students have talked about travel in different communities and the movement of money. The children have all selected the community project they are going to create....please
help them to gather their materials, plan their ideas and create a
calendar so that they can do a little bit at a time!
Writing: We are beginning the planning for our informational writing project. We also are developing introductions to draw the reading in to the text.
Again, thank you so much for your help and support! I appreciate it more than you know...a home-school partnership is beneficial to all...especially your children. Have a great weekend.
