Thank you so much for your assistance last week with the Community Projects! I appreciate all the efforts you made to bring the projects to school and then to come back to view them all. Your children do not know how lucky they are! That project completed our Communities unit for the year. I would like to send out a public thank you to Mrs. Tobin who taught and
completed out Junior Achievement Program this week as well.
I have 3 bits of news for you! On February 28th, Richie Phillips from WGNA 107.7 will be coming to our class to work with the children on the Hannaford sponsored "Reading, Writing, and Rhyming Tour". He will parody the song "Call me Maybe" by writing a healthy version to will fit our curriculum. I had this program last year and it was a lot of fun. You will hear our results on the radio the next day.
There will be NO formal homework over the vacation. Please just remember to read daily with your child and help them practice math facts.
Next week, Miss Knoblock will be completing the solo portion of her student teaching experience. I will be in school each day. I will be completing individual reading assessments and 1:1 instruction.
Reading/Social Studies: This week we continued to work on Close Reading strategies. The children are reading informational passages on a deeper level for vocabulary and insights. The children talked about Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Barack O'Bama, to name just a few of our topics.
Math: We completed our unit on mental subtraction. It will be assessed today. So will the basic facts.
Writing: We hope to complete our informational writing assessment tomorrow. Next week, we will begin "How to" booklets.
Have a wonderful vacation! I hope to see everyone back healthy and rested on February 25th!
