Thank you for the positive parent conferences we again had this week.  It is a pleasure to be able to discuss with you your child's many successes.

This week has flown by, as usual!

Reading Workshop:  We are continuing to work on nonfiction conventions and retells.  The students have been creating their own Tables of Contents and reading texts to find evidence to answer questions.

Math:  We have begun work on subtraction strategies.  The main strategies covered are :  "think addition to subtract"  and "make a ten".  I am hoping your children can explain these processes to you.

Writing:  We are continuing to work on adding details to our writing by slowing down the action.  We are also beginning to develop Snappy Beginnings which allow the author (your child) to draw in the reader in an interesting way.  Gone are the days of "One day...".

Science:  We completed our Ant book and sent it off for publication.  I hope to have it back in November.  I think it came out great.  I hope you will like it.  We will take out ant unit test on Friday.

Dates to Know:
10/31--Halloween party 1:45 (all are welcome)
11/01--Picture Day
11/08--Veteran's Day assembly 2:20.  YOUR CHILDREN WILL BE PRESENTING.  Please come if possible!

Have a great weekend.  Thank you for all you do to support me!
