Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to attend our Parent Conferences. It is a real pleasure for me to be able to discuss your children's many successes! Please remember that if any questions or concerns come up before our next conference, call me. I will do the same.
This week was exciting because of both Halloween and our preparation for Veterans Day. We are in the process of learning our lines and speaking slowly, with expression into a microphone. Tonight you should receive a copy of your child's lines and one of the songs they will be performing in case you'd like to practice. Please have your child wear blue pants and a white shirt (or red white and blue shirt) on Friday, November 8th.
Reading: We are continuing to work on scaffolding information for accurate retells in nonfiction. The children have been working in small groups practicing this skill. We are also working on discovering textual evidence to answer questions in complete sentences and building fluency and expression in oral reading.
Math: We have completed our unit on subtraction strategies and have taken this units test. The most difficult section was the use of 2 step word problems.
Writing: The children are continuing to work on story leads. In the week that we have worked on this strategy, I have seen tremendous gains. Ask your child about story starting strategies.
Social Studies: We are practicing for our Veterans Day assembly and also learnng its history and significance to America.
I will NOT be sending a November Book order out because the PTO will be sponsoring a Book Fair in November.
Thank you for your help with Halloween. The children went home excited and happy. Have a great weekend.
