Thank you so much to everyone who attended my first set of conferences! I had so much info to share and really appreciate your patience. Also, thank you to everyone who completed the book order form (yes or no). This allows us to get a free book for the classroom!
Reading--The children continue to practice identifying and using nonfiction conventions. We are working on scaffolding information for better recall and presetting prior to reading. These strategies really increase comprehension!
Math--We completed our Addition Strategies unit and tested it. Almost all students showed mastery on this topic. I am very pleased. You should continue to see growth on their rapid fact recall tests.
Science--We are completing our unit on Ants and also completing our book for publication. I am sure you will be impressed by your students level of research. Their illistrations are very good also.
Writing--The children are becoming mush better at writing stories that show increased detail and action, rather than just lists of events. We are continuing to work on leads (snappy beginnings) and (satisfying) endings.
Social Studies--This week we also touched on Christopher Columbus and Fire Safety. The children watched a video and made telescopes. We also visited a Fire Safety assembly and fire truck.
We will be having our Halloween party on Thursday, October 31st at 1:45-2:45 (At 2:45 all parents must leave to make room for buses at dismissal.) . All parents are welcome to attend however, we are asked to remind you that we may not include younger siblings.
As always, thank you for your interest, support and kind words! I have a great job!
