We have had a great week with many activities...a concert, Dress Like a Farmer Day, PowerPoint, SuperBowl Day and more!

Reading:  We are reading through short selections of various genres to answer questions like author's purpose, reasons we can tell a selection is fiction vs nonfiction, and determining the main idea.  These are difficult concepts and require the students to answer using complex sentences.  It is hard going but they are doing well.

Math:  We completed our work on addition regrouping with models and are not strictly into using numbers to solve.  I love our new math program.  The children are seeming to grasp concepts of number intuitively.  Please continue to practice facts.  The more automatic they become, the easier this process will be.

Writing:  We are writing our informational pieces on our famous people.  The students are writing chapters for introductions, early life, adult life, major accomplishments and a conclusion.  They use their notes and develop sentences that flow.  We are also using the information to make our PowerPoint presentations.

Social Studies:  This week we continued our very popular study of the United States.  We are locating states, naming them, remembering nicknames and using abbreviations.  It is a very hot topic.  Many thanks to Mr. McCarthy who came in and did a presentation explaining types of maps and reasons for their representations.

Thank you for continuing to make sure that your children are properly dressed for the weather and prepared for our work days.  Have a great SuperBowl weekend.
