Wow!  It looks like we made it through an entire week without a snow day!  Boy, I hope that groundhog was right...by his calculations, we should be finished with this mess in about 2 weeks!

We used this very busy week to catch up.

Math--We completed our beginning unit on Addition regrouping.  We are continuing on to subtraction regrouping now.  On Fridays, we have been working on some of the additional concepts.  This week it is a telling time review.

Science--We began our required balancing and weighing unit.  It is very hands on and the children love it.  This week we balanced butterflies, made structures that balance and discovered how the placement of a fulcrum affects the way weight balances.

Reading--We have been spending so much time on nonfiction retellings that I decided I had better go back and review fiction retells.  I am very glad that I did!  We will continue that review next week!

Writing--We did some "housekeeping" during writing workshop this week.  We wrote thank you notes to Dr. Herzog, for his Dental Health presentation, Mr. McCarthy for his map presentation and Richie Phillips for helping us to write a song for GNA.  We are completing our unit on Informational text over the next week or so.  The children have been discussing and practicing transitional words, introductions and closings.

I expect our Valentines Day party to go off without a hitch other than the fact that it is two weeks late!  Thank you to all the parents who contributed and volunteered to make this happen.  HAve a great weekend.
